They love their own children, of course, but it is much different to have a house full of them when most of them are not yours. Don’t start anything until you are sure that you can do it, and that it's something you will enjoy.

You can have a few children at your house and still be considered a babysitter, but add a few more and you are legally a daycare. That means you may have to have certification in certain things, and that there are state and even federal laws and regulations that you have to follow. You may have to plan your meals around government approved menus, and you may have to follow rules that you're not sure you can adhere to. This might apply to the number children you can have without hiring an assistant, which can eat into your profits.

  You should also think about your time. If you were to start a daycare, you may not have the schedule flexibility that you once enjoyed. The hours many work are varied, and you are free to set your own hours of operations, but if they're too limited, no one will use your service. You may not be able to go away on a vacation with your family unless you plan it well in advance. If an emergency were to arise with someone in your family, you won't be able to run right out the door to help them or see them. Take all of these things into consideration when starting a daycare so that you know you have truly made the right decision for you.
